The drive from Prince George to Dawson Creek was beautiful!
The beginning of the Alaska Highway
We stopped by the Alaska Highway monument and sign and had lunch. Then we drove past the real mile 0 sign in the road and headed towards Fort Nelson.
The drive from Dawson Creek to Fort Nelson was kind of boring. Just trees and not as much impressive scenery. We stopped for gas in Fort Nelson. It was $1.46/liter. Ouch!

Free camping at Beaver Lake Recreation Area
Beaver Lake Recreation Area is a small campground off of highway 77 just past Fort Nelson. The best site for a more massive rig is at the end of the campground road at the back of the turnaround.
The road in is unpaved and a little bumpy but we didn’t have any problems with our class A. Each site has a large, sturdy picnic table and a fire ring. There is no cell service here. It is free, and a ranger rolled through just as we were about to leave. Otherwise, it was just us down there.
We’re already far enough north that it’s staying light until around midnight and starting to get light around 3:30 am.
