Time to leave Hope behind and head to Seward, Alaska! We’ve heard many good things about Seward, and it seems like most of them are true.
Iditarod Campground
In Seward, we lucked out at an excellent spot right on Resurrection Bay and a short walk to the little downtown area.
There are campgrounds all along the bay, but Iditarod Campground seems to be the smallest. As you roll along the water, it’s the last campground before you get to the Alaska SeaLife Center.
There are no hook-ups, but the views were amazing! RVs are $20/night, and there’s a pay station right in the campground by the dumpster.
Every day we saw sea otters float by the front of our RV. That doesn’t happen everywhere!
The first day was dreary but then the skies cleared up and we could see the mountains all around us.
One pro-tip for visiting Seward, check the cruise ship schedule before you go. We’ve heard the cell towers can become overloaded when a cruise ship is in port. So we planned our visit to avoid docked ships. A boat went out right after we arrived and another came in just before we left town.
Kenai Fjords Tours
Like Valdez, Seward is another excellent place to get on a boat and look for wildlife and glaciers.
We were hoping for orcas but didn’t see any. On our Kenai Fjords Tour, we did see humpback whales, sea lions, Dall’s porpoise, puffins, and many glaciers.
And we couldn’t have had better weather for the trip. The turquoise of the water and the bright blue sky with occasional white clouds made for beautiful photos and video.

Vegan options in Seward
Dinner at Seward Brewing Company
In the little downtown area, we found delicious vegan food options at Seward Brewing Company. We had the green tea soba noodles and a watermelon salad. A couple more restaurants seemed to also have options.
Natural Foods Store
If you need to restock on unusual ingredients, there’s a nice natural foods store there as well called Frontier Healing Arts. They had Dandies vegan marshmallows so we could have s’mores!

The campground was right next to mile 0 of the Iditarod Trail.

Meeting up with other RVers
Also while in Seward, we got to hang out with Shannon and Talula again from Sweet T Travels! We enjoyed hangs and campfires and s’mores.
And then, The Nickerson’s of Finding Our Someday pulled in and we also had campfire hangs. Sure, Alaska is a big place but sometimes you do run into other Instagram and YouTube RVers!
We really enjoyed Seward, Alaska and consider it a town we’d like to hang out in again.
