One of the great things about having your own RV is that you get to customize it to your liking. The best part is there are cheap, eco-friendly ways to customize your interior without compromising on style. You can find anything second-hand nowadays, and things like flooring and countertops are available in a range of sustainable materials. Make your interior both functional and inviting this summer. Here are six sustainable ways to customize your RV interior.

Sustainable flooring

There are several sustainable options for flooring. In order to cut costs, linoleum sheet flooring such as Marmoleum is a stylish yet durable choice. Depending on the brand, it can be made from an average of 43% recycled materials and is manufactured using 97% natural raw materials.

If you’re looking for a linoleum flooring that is high-quality, durable, and has an innovative design then Marmoleum is right for you. It’s available in sheets, planks, and tiles so it’s quick and easy to install. It’s also anti-static and easy to clean.

Lighting

For a more sustainable option, switch all your electric lighting to LEDs. These are much more durable and energy-efficient. LED strips are perfect for an RV, they’re cheap and practical and you can buy them at any Home Depot. You could even consider color-changing LEDs for a more fun option.

If you’re just getting into RV boondocking, you could even look into LED awning lights or motion sensors, to help you find your camper when you’re out walking at night. Exterior lighting also has many benefits. LEDs are compatible in almost all replacement applications and designed to work fro both AC and DC systems.

Used parts

Many RV owners choose to upgrade their camper with used parts from RV salvages. This is a cheaper and more sustainable option. You can find parts for both the exterior and interior at an RV salvage yard near you. This is a great way to save money on costly repairs.

An out of use RV could very well have plenty of fully-functioning appliances. You could find pieces for your kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom in perfectly good condition. If the RV has been written off on a technical fault, this might not have had anything to do with the interior.

Quartz countertops

There are several choices for countertops. If you want a quick and easy option, peel and stick countertops are great. You can install these in minutes. For a more sustainable and permanent countertop, however, quartz is recommended, provided your RV can handle the additional weight. There are many benefits of quartz countertops. They’re durable and stylish, and unique.

Often you can find quartz countertops that are made of waste granite, quartz and marble, making the recycled. Some are even made of industrial waste, and quartz barely features at all. The recycled nature of quartz promotes a sustainable lifestyle. It’s also very durable and will withstand a lot of wear and tear over time.

Wall art

There is where you get to be creative. You could look for quirky pieces and pictures in your local thrift store to decorate the interior of your RV. If you have artistic talents, you could even make something yourself. Use command hooks to avoid drilling into the walls, and quickly brighten up the place with some wall art.

Why not even pick up some souvenirs while you’re traveling? This way your RV walls will be full of memories from your trips. Choose something according to your own unique style and taste.

We attached our art to the walls of our RV with this sticky back hook and loop fastener and not one has fallen down in almost four years.

Peel and stick wallpaper

You've probably heard of peel and stick tile but did you know that removable wallpaper is an option for your RV? It’s easy to put up and you can change it if you need to. That being said, there are some eco-friendly options. Choose a brand with a holistic approach to minimize ink and waste. If you have your wallpaper custom made, you’ll be able to reduce waste and make a difference in the textile industry.

It essentially works like a giant sticker and is a convenient way to freshen up your interior. You can pick your favorite designs to really add character to the interior of your RV. Most websites offer a sample for you to test out against your other furnishings.

With a few little upgrades to the interior, you could improve the look and efficiency of your RV. There are plenty of sustainable ways you can customize your camper, and do your bit for the environment as well. Add a touch of personality to your RV before your next trip, it could make the journey a lot more fun.
